[So, Luceti. All's quiet this cold afternoon in the village and in the forest, right?

Well, it probably isn't anymore. In the forest, trees can be seen being bent and the leafless branches sway as something blasts by at high speed. Those with sharp eyes can catch a blue streak dashing along the ground, wind wrapping around it at its point, looking almost like a comet. A comet that leaps over every obstruction in its path without hesitation, and even bounces from tree to tree to clear any gaps... until it comes across one of the streams.

The blue blur doesn't hesitate, and instead begins following the river downstream, running along its surface, sending water flying back behind it in a wave... until it finds its way into the village.

Here the streak slows down enough that the wind surrounding it dissipates. Sonic takes his run through the village slower so he doesn't hit anyone, but he does take needlessly roundabout paths, bounding along the roofs of houses, off the sides of community buildings and along the tops of lamp posts until he makes it into the square. Here he finally stops, kicking up a large cloud of dust as he does so.

He pauses and takes a look around the square, his journal under his arm, unaware it started recording. With a casual scratch of his head, he then shakes his head, his blue quills gently swaying as he does so.]

Yup, definitely looks like I'm not in Kansas anymore. [He shrugs, then runs a finger along one of his wings, somewhat annoyed.] Not that I was there to begin with.

[Sonic then turns to anyone else in the square.]

Hey! Can anyone give me directions outta "Now-I-Have-Wings Land?" Can't really say I'm a fan...

[Zzzooo--- SKIIIIID. Well, she would be skidding if she was on the ground, but Dash comes to an immediate halt, glancing over at Sonic, then at the horizon, and back again.]

Yeah, well...

[...Yep. She tied. While it's certainly a step above losing, she was so looking forward to the bragging rights that come with a smooth victory.

Huff. Does that mean she's gonna have to share the title of "fastest"?]

Though, seriously. And, I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything but...

Is there something with this place that messes with super speed? I felt like I was only going half as fast as I normally would, even though I was going one-hundred percent.

Hm...you left a bit over a year ago. I think that's when I heard the announcement. But until then, you were around for a good while. You seemed to have friends all over. I don't know how many of those are still around, but it's likely that you'll find some.

Well, guess I'll have to get started looking, then. Don't suppose Tails or Knuckles are around, huh?

[He shrugs.]

Hard to tell. I've been here almost three years, but some people last less than a month.

[Okay, so it's not the most encouraging news, but he might as well get it out of the way.]

But there's one thing I will say about this place; it never gets too dull around here.

[Well, at least he's not being too big of a jerk about it. Dash nods, heaving a sigh as she slowly lands and digs one hoof into the sand.]

It's not just you. This place messed with my speed, too.

I mean, if I was going my real speed, I'd be pulling off Sonic Rainbooms in a heartbeat!

[Sonic brushes a hand back over his brow, causing his quills to bounce a bit.]

Well, at least that means it was still a fair race. Wouldn't have been cool if one of us had a real disadvantage.

And I may not make... rainbooms, [Whatever the heck those are...] but I make sound look slow when I'm really going.

[Rydia shakes her head.]

I don't think so, not any longer. The names are a little familiar, but I'm pretty sure they aren't here now. You can check the guest book, though? There might be a message from them.

[She points to its location, taking another sip while doing so.]

Yeah, that'd just be cheap. What fun's a competition if one of us can't give it our all?

[Dash does like a good challenge, after all. She just likes winning a whole lot, too.

And, pff. Sonic's description...]

So basically you break the sound barrier. Well, a Sonic Rainboom takes it one step further.

[... Well. Kazooie hasn't seen such speedy footwork since Rainbow Dash. ~~Though she's totally up there when Beak Bombing or wearing her Turbo Trainers.~~

But this? She can hardly resist taking it as a challenge. Following the hedgehog's lead, Kazooie effortlessly Leg Springs, tucks into a Glide, and buzzes just under the edge of a rooftop, landing smoothly on a nearby building before hopping up to the vaulted top of the roof with all the strange, awkward pseudo-grace she can muster.

Beat that, Blue Boy.]

So, what, when you do it you leave behind a trail of rainbows?

[He nods and quickly gets up to go get a look. He flips through the pages very fast, looking through them at an impressive speed. After a moment, he shuts the book and sighs.]

Nope, nothing I could find. Might be better this way. Can't help but feel like this is going to be some kind of wild ride.

It better not! That'd be enough to drive any hedgehog crazy.

So, are there any good parts about being stuck in this snow globe?

[Pfffft. She shakes her head.]

Even better! It's a sonic boom and a rainbow combined.

[She hovers a bit off the ground, bringing one hoof to her chest.]

It's a legendary stunt, and I'm the only pegasus who's ever pulled it off.

[Okay, he'll see your graceful glide and barnstorming with a few tricks of his own.

Pouring on the speed, Sonic runs up the side of one of the community buildings, bounding over the fire escape on the way. Just as he reaches the fifth floor, he vaults backward off the building into a flip...

Landing with perfect form on one foot on a lamppost down below, before forward spin jumping off, then using a jump dash to land on a nearby roof.]

[She nods, sympathetic.]

It will be, for better and worse. The Malnosso -those who keep us in this barrier and gave us all wings- see us as their cannon fodder and test subjects. At least once a month, usually in the latter part, they subject the entire town to an experiment. It varies widely, but has caused extreme transformations, personality changes, people to remember their entire life history differently, and so on. At the end of the experiment, everything goes back to normal, as much as it can. But that doesn't mean people are unaffected by what they do.

I think it's probably better that I don't ask how that works.

Heh, not bad.

Yeah, it's not like things snapping back to the way they were fixes everything.

Sounds like a real lame set-up. And I'm guessing no one's found a way to escape these experiment things yet.

I'd show you what I mean, but the power cap kinda gets in the way.

[Which is a shame because she loves showing off.]

Actually, it's usually not too bad. Most of the time it's pretty laid back, and there's plenty of stuff to do. Heck, the people here throw parties all the time.

[Which is a bit of an exaggeration, but they are becoming more frequent.]

No, not exactly. Sometimes people aren't affected, but that doesn't seem to be something they can chose for themselves, and it's usually not the same people who are immune, anyway.

[She then pauses, looking thoughtful.]

However, I might have found a loophole, of sorts. Recently, they implemented a mission system, where we can choose to take on various tasks for them, and we're given rewards as a result. It's still manipulative, but if you time it just right...you might be lucky enough to escape what happens here, at least.

So our options are get experimented on by the man, or work for the man.

I think I'll take my chances with the enclosure. Or chilling out in a cave somewhere.

Now free stuff and parties I can get behind.

When does that kind of stuff happen? And are they for everyone?
